Many patients with refractory epilepsy experience increased seizure and abnormal brain activity during nighttime sleep. Low-frequency (1 pulse per second) audio-visual stimulation tested in rodents has produced a significant (50-75%) reduction in seizure frequency. We propose to test a similar acoustic stimulation protocol, delivered during sleep in epilepsy patients with frequent nighttime seizures and abnormal brain activity, to determine feasibility and physiological effect of at-home use.
